Island of Naxos – Yacht Charter

Yacht Charter in Naxos:

Naxos is located in the centre of the Cycladic islands group. It is the biggest and the greenest island in Cyclades, yacht charter with impressively high mountains, fertile valleys, lush green gorges, stunning seascapes and traditional villages perched high on mountain tops, where the inhabitants still wear their traditional dress and live off the fruits of the land! Naxos is also an island of beautiful old churches, monasteries and Venetian castles coexisting harmoniously with Cycladic cubic houses. Yacht rental.
The commercial harbour of Naxos is its only harbour in the island. It offers a good enough shelter in settled weather, however it is noisy and with the meltemi it is exposed to considerable amount of swell. Yacht charter.

The marina is fairly new, starting operation in 2002. The marina is operated by the local municipality and an attendant is occasionally on hand (2005) to help visitors moor.  Yacht charter.  There are public sanitation facilities one block back from the waterfront.
The marina is well protected and there are laid moorings at most (but not all) berths. Yacht charter.  Space is, however, very tight and it will not always be possible to find room in here during peak season. Water and electricity are available on the quay.

Mykonos is a Greek island, part of the Cyclades, lying between Tinos, Syros, Paros and Naxos. Yacht charter.  There are 10,134 inhabitants most of whom live in the largest town, Mykonos, which lies on the west coast. The town is also known as Chora.

Mykonos’ nickname is The island of the winds Tourism is a major industry. Widely known for it’s nightlife, Mykonos is called “Ibiza of Greece” for its summer club scene which attracts very large numbers of tourists every year. Idealic island for yacht charter.

Mykonos Marina (known locally as the New Port)  is a partly finished marina located around two kilometres north of the old harbour and town of Mykonos. It provides good shelter from the prevailing winds and is quiet, being some distance from the main town. Until recently something of a ‘free for all’, attempts have been made to improve the facilities for yachts here and there are when last reviewed around a dozen laid moorings for small and medium sized yachts in the marina’s “yacht basin” to starboard on entry and a further 30 for larger (20-25 metre) yachts on the marina’s south west quay (on the inside of the section where the cruise liners berth). Water and electricity (prepaid) are currently available only at the berths on the SW quay. Luxury Yacht charter.

Island of Santorini – Yacht Charter

Yacht Charter in Santorini:

Santorini and officially Thira is an island in the southern Aegean Sea, about 200 km (120 mi) southeast of Greece’s mainland. It is the largest island of a small, circular archipelago which bears the same name and is the remnant of a volcanic caldera. The municipality of Santorini comprises the inhabited islands of Santorini and Therasia and the uninhabited islands of Nea Kameni, Palaia Kameni, Aspronisi, and Christiana.  The capital, Fira, clings to the top of the cliff looking down on the lagoon. The volcanic rocks present from the prior eruptions feature olivine and have a small presence of hornblende. Luxury Yacht charter.
The whole island is famous for its high cliffs of volcanic origin which offer some spectacular views. Yacht charter.  Essentially, the whole island is one large volcano which has had its top blown off a long time ago, forming a large caldera in the center of the island which offers even more spectacular views.

The volcanic nature of the island also means that Yacht Charter beaches have a wide range of colors and textures depending on the geologic layer they’re situated on: there’s a Red Beach, a Black Beach, a White Beach

The island is the site of one of the largest volcanic eruptions in recorded history: the Minoan eruption (sometimes called the Thera eruption), which occurred some 3600 years ago at the height of the Minoan civilization. The eruption left a large caldera surrounded by volcanic ash deposits hundreds of metres deep and may have led indirectly to the collapse of the Minoan civilization on the island of Crete, 110 km (68 mi) to the south, through a gigantic tsunami. Another popular theory holds that the Thera eruption is the source of the legend of Atlantis. Luxury yacht charter.

Santorini Yacht Charter

Vlichada marina – Yacht charter

The uncompleted marina of Vlichada at the south tip of Santorini (yacht charter) is really the only port where you can safely moor the yacht during storms or leave the yacht unattended whilst exploring the islands. Luxury Yacht charter.  It has been unfinished for many years, but since summer 2009 the planned facilities can finally be appreciated. Yacht charter.
Important: the approach is rather treacherous with two submerged ancient moles blocking the most logical way in. To avoid this and other obstacles: steer a course of 45° towards any point between the chimneys and the blue hotel till you see the entrance of the marina at 90°.  Bareboat yacht charter.

Note, that lots of charts and guides erroneously only mention one breakwater. And although the northern one (not indicated in the map below) is much shorter and not the dangerous one, it is certainly there! Yacht charter.

Once inside, you still need a watchful eye since the entrance is quite often badly silted up and a nasty submerged block awaits you at your starboard side.  Yacht charter.

Port of Vourkari

The yacht harbour of Vourkari (Flotilla Yacht Charter)  has several seafood restaurants and is where all the people who are sailing the Cyclades come. Luxury Yacht charter.  The boats dock up, parallel-parking style right on the street and the waiters, when they are not too busy, run out to help by catching the lines and shouting directions and encouragement to the sailors. According to some travel guides Evia doesn’t have many beaches or sights and so it not really on the tourist map. I think it is just more due to the fact that the island of Evia is unknown, because there are quite a few beaches and monuments.  Yacht charter with crew.

Euboea Yacht Charter

Evia is located on the northeast side of Attica and is connected to the mainland through a 30-metre-long suspension bridge. Skopelos, the main harbour of the island is a large and noisy harbour. With a meltemi (NE) it can develop an uncomfortable swell, although the harbour remains tenable. The most protected spot from the meltemi is on the NE corner. Anchor at about 10-15 m. The proximity of the hotel and beach however makes this a less desirable anchorage.  Yacht charter with crew The S cove is more isolated and although it is fairly narrow and can be crowded is an all around good shelter and is very pleasant with pine trees all the way to the water. Anchor anywhere you find room at about 4-10 m and take a line ashore to prevent the boat from swinging into other boats. Yacht charter.
